Ebooks

Monday, April 20th, 2009

An electronic book, also referred to as an eBook or e-book, is an electronic text that is the equivalent of a conventional printed book. E-books are usually read on computers, cell phones or other hardware devices called e-book readers.

Many people write ebooks because they do not need to be manufactured so the cost of reproduction is zero. Also, ebooks tend to be sold for a higher price than a printed book so the profit margins in creating a successful ebook are huge.

The problem most people run into after they have written the book is security. After putting so much effort into writing an ebook, why place it on the web without security for anyone to read, reproduce and copy?

Ebook security can be handled in many different ways. The most popular way is using a PDF wrapper or Ebook compiler. This system takes the PDF and wraps it in an executable file that has a password and other security measures built into it. There can be huge problems with these files. First of all, executables cannot be ready by MAC users. Second of all, these wrappers require your customers to take multiple steps to read the book. These steps result in technical support phone calls and numerous inconveniences for your readers.

Therefore, Web Impakt recommends simply password-protecting the e-book directory and encrypting your payment and download links. We feel this will give your e-book enough protection from website bots and pirates while allowing your potential readers the convenience of opening and reading the e-book easily.

Here is a list of articles we found interesting during our quest to protect one of our clients ebooks:

The most important part of the website plan is to define your target market. It is essential to define who your chosen demographic will be. Once your target market is defined, the design and copywriting will be consistent to appeal to your chosen audience.

There are many purposes to having a website, these may include one or more of the following:

Successful Online Forum

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Similar to the literal definition of a forum “A public meeting or assembly for open discussion” a web seiforum.gifforum is “A web site that allows for individuals to meet for open discussion.”  Web Impakt has created many forums.

The Southeast Idaho Singles forum posts many announcements and allows singles from the Idaho Falls area to meet.

Web Impakt has also created a very successful form for our client Bradley chiefs.gifBusiness Group.  The Chiefs Network Forum is only for invited users but has over 600 registered members.

Creating a successful online community takes a lot patience and hard work.  Some successful forums include  Gamespot forums, Reality TV World Forum and Small Business Forum.

Here are a few hints to create a successful forum:

  • Be an expert on the forum topic.   Make significant and original posts.
  • Find a group of people to start the forum with you.  It is difficult to create interest if you are the only one posting.
  • Create a newsletter or mailing list.  If there is interest in the newsletter, switching over to a forum will be easy.
